Need a fresh idea? Pulling together your own studies? We can all use fresh inspiration and these free unit studies may be just what we need!

Besides the resource list below you may also enjoy one of over 100 of our own free units:
The unit-study posts I publish will generally have free or inexpensive materials and activities you can use to create your own unit study. You can also use a packaged unit study and substitute any activities that you think will be a better fit for your children. Whatever format you use, here are some basic steps to follow in creating a unit. The reading units of study help teachers provide their students with instruction, opportunities for practice, and concrete doable goals to help them meet and exceed any set of high standards. Proven Tools and Methods. It is an understatement to say these units have been piloted many times. Hello, I am very proud to present the teacher-authored instructional unit samples in Science. Each of these units represents the work of a team of Colorado educators to translate one curriculum overview sample into a full instructional unit with learning experiences, teacher and student resources, assessment ideas, and differentiation options. Astronomers study celestial objects (stars, planets, moon, asteroids, comets, galaxies, etc) that exist outside our planet's atmosphere. Its the one field that combines most science, engineering and technology areas in one fell swoop. Astronomy is also one of the oldest sciences on the planet. Weather is everywhere and a permanent part of our lives. It can both beautiful and destructive so it is important for us to understand it. In the Weather Watch unit, students will learn about different types of weather, the instruments we use to measure it and how we are able to predict weather-or-not it will be a snow day (yes, pun intended).

Although these units were written for California’s 1998 science standards, they contain engaging resources (including visual aids, readings, activities, and maps) that are still relevant and, if thoughtfully integrated, can help support lessons and units of study focused on California’s NGSS.
